Want to Start a Fire? Find & Follow the Missing Money from Palmer’s Volunteer Fire Dept. by Joey G. Dauben
January 5, 2011, 1:55 am
Filed under: Emergency Services District No. 9, Palmer Volunteer Fire Dept.

This is the longest, most in-depth, thorough open records/public information request I have ever written. I know there is embezzlement going on within the Palmer Volunteer Fire Dept., with Chief Ricky McElhaney‘s wife “doing the books.” There’s a lot of missing money, according to sources on the inside of PVFD. We’re not talking just little bits and pieces here and there, but upwards of $20,000 is missing, and that’s what I’m going to find out…where it went, who it went to, what checks and balances exist to maintain this never happens again, etc.

Regardless of what “good” they’ve done in the community or town, stealing is still wrong. Embezzlement is theft, and it is a felony. And those who know what is going on but don’t say anything, are just as guilty of embezzlement as they are. To the brave souls inside PVFD and ESD No. 9 and the City of Palmer who are leaking this information to me, thank you! Your identities will never be made known. People can subpoena me, take me to court, threaten me with jail or set my newspapers on fire…my sources won’t be revealed.

To those who continue to accuse me of purposely stirring up trouble, I find it ironic that you are the very family that is accused of embezzlement, thievery, misappropriation of funds and all sorts of other indictable offenses. I find it absolutely hilarious and hysterical that I’m being accused of writing things “on purpose” for people to hate my guts, but yet those who attack me are the ones covering up for this embezzlement! Now if that isn’t just the clearest form of hypocrisy. We will find out where the public’s money has gone…

Palmer Begins Enforcing Sign Ordinance by Joey G. Dauben

And there’s a $500 fine for violating it after the 90-day window to come into compliance. To view the entire ordinance online via PDF form, click here: http://www.elliscountyobserver.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/PalmerSignOridnance931.pdf
Here is some background information on the sign ordinance: http://www.elliscountyobserver.com/?p=18284

The beer/wine election that passed on Nov. 2 in Palmer begat this whole “let’s look at what we’re not enforcing…oh and hey, there’s a money-making mechanism on this too!” mentality. Sigh.

The Palmer Post: Before & After by Joey G. Dauben

I’m not understanding all the hostility and outrage being directed towards The Palmer Post and me personally for the articles, content and what’s going on. I mean, we didn’t hear about this much stuff when the “old” Palmer Post was around, did we? We didn’t hear any hostile reactions and accusations that I just like to cause people to hate me when those anonymous pink sheets were distributed around elections did we? So what is the difference?

There were lawsuits over this paper from John Templer and former Mayor Mike Greenlee to get to the bottom of this Palmer Post (before my purchase of it), to find out who was behind it. There were little dust-ups at Jenny’s Cafe in downtown because people would get furious after reading it, but the bombardment over The Palmer Post…must be doing something effective.

1 Palmer Cop Wants to Kill Someone, Obviously by Joey G. Dauben
January 2, 2011, 2:55 pm
Filed under: I-45, Palmer 75152, Palmer Police Dept.

Officer Chris Mendez was fired from Palmer PD once before for wrecking not one, but two squad cars, but was rehired after doing an award-winning hatchet job on former Chief Scott Lynch‘s personnel file. The guy is a senator amid the circle of Caesar.

He’s also been seen by an employee of an Ennis auto dealership flying in and out of traffic (letter to the editor about that one coming in a future issue) — pushing, according to this dealership’s estimate — 80-100 mph. (just a guestimate)

Then, someone recently saw him flying down I-45 with no lights and not chasing anyone and then pulling into the drive-through at Jack in the Box.

Officer Mendez is going to end up costing us either (a another squad car, (b higher insurance premiums or liability costs from Texas Municipal League, (c injuries to himself or others or (d all of the above.

This madness has to stop. I won’t hesitate to praise them when they do good, or spank them when they do bad, and Mendez is definitely one whose actions could cost us more liability, costs and/or injuries.

The Palmer Post Web site was launched in early 2010 after I bought the paper last January, started Freedom of the Press Group and decided to replicate The Palmer Post model into other towns.

The Web site, as tracked by WordPress.com, was a total surprise on a few things:

Happy New Year from WordPress.com! To kick off the year, we’d like to share with you data on how your blog has been doing. Here’s a high level summary of your overall blog health:

Palmer Cop Writes 4,049 Tickets in 1 Year by Joey G. Dauben
December 31, 2010, 8:07 pm
Filed under: Palmer 75152, Palmer City Council, Palmer Police Dept.

Back when Scott Lynch was the police chief in Palmer,  members of the city council berated him and his officers for working the highway so much and collecting citations and tickets from I-45. There is barely a peep from the council these days with a new chief – one in which The Palmer Post supports fully, by the way – with his officers running up and down I-45. When the policy changes at the city council level, there won’t be a chart like this:
